Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours, 18:45 - 7:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse with strong skills in both circulating and scrubbing. The role involves working night shifts in a fast-paced OR environment with a focus on neuro spine, ortho spine, vascular, and robotics cases.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience, with at least 1 year within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience in both scrubbing and circulating in the OR

Job Details

  • Case Load: Approximately 45 cases across 17 rooms.
  • Shift Hours: 12-hour night shifts.
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks.
  • Call: No call required.
  • Float: None.

Specialty Priorities (Must have 2-3 of the top four)

  1. Neuro and Neuro Spine
  2. Ortho/Ortho Spine (Note: 90% of joints have moved offsite; limited scopes, cuffs, etc.)
  3. Vascular
  4. Robotics
  5. Urology
  6. Podiatry
  7. Oncology GYN
  8. Miscellaneous (General, ENT, Plastics)

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Background checks including local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree earned.
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days and annual updates required.
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical).
  • Immunizations and titers required: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with facility-specific declination if applicable). Declinations are generally not accepted except for Hepatitis B with facility form.
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required. Exemptions require mask-wearing on campus.
  • Completion of facility-specific education modules including medication safety, annual compliance training, and orientation checklists.
  • Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract (passport style, white background, business attire).
  • Confidentiality agreement, hospital policies acknowledgment, and other facility-specific documents must be signed prior to start.
  • Corp ID and I-Learn account setup required within 72 hours of contract signing, including proof of login.

References & History

  • Two professional references within three years required for travel, allied, and per diem acute care candidates.
  • Employment application must be uploaded.
  • Performance evaluation required if worked with the agency over one year.

Additional Notes

  • No call-offs or additional RTO (released time off) allowed after booking; violations may result in cancellation.
  • Interview with the manager is mandatory before offer.
  • Locals are accepted for this position.

This position is ideal for an OR RN with strong acute care experience in neuro and ortho spine specialties, who is comfortable working night shifts and meeting strict compliance and onboarding requirements.
