Scrub Tech
Location: San Diego, California
Employment Type: Travel - Clinical Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12 hours per day
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
Provides specific patient care duties and unit support activities in the operating room (OR) suite. Anticipates needs during surgical cases, manages instrument trays, and ensures compliance with count policies and surgeon preference cards. Participates in quality improvement and may take on additional departmental responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Comply with all applicable policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
- Maintain all regulatory requirements including licensing, certification, and mandatory training (e.g., TB testing, HIPAA, safety).
- Provide quality care by anticipating surgical needs and assisting with dressings or cast application post-procedure.
- Follow surgeon preference cards and update them as needed.
- Perform surgical counts (instruments, towel clips, etc.) and report discrepancies.
- Identify and address problems proactively to improve quality of care.
- Work additional or different shifts as requested.
- Participate in teaching and submit recommendations for process improvements or cost containment.
- On-call requirements: 12 hours on weekends and 20 hours on weekdays within a 4-week period, with a 30-minute response time. Weekend call is in addition to scheduled weekend shifts. Scheduled two shifts every other weekend.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an OB Technician, including experience within the last year.
- Experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- BLS certification.
- NRP certification.
- Strong gynecology (GYN) skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Scrub Tech preferred.
- Completion of an approved program for Operating Room Technicians or demonstrated technical skills through on-the-job training.
Additional Information
- Must be able to comply with all count policies and procedures.
- Responsible for managing complete instrumental trays.
- Expected to work independently without direction to fulfill responsibilities.
- Cancelation policy: 1 shift per pay period may be canceled without pay.
