Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU/PCU Float
Location: Lufkin, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Care Details
- Work in a rural hospital setting with an outdated EMR system.
- Float between 2 units: ICU (24 beds) and PCU (26 beds).
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- ICU: typically 2:1, sometimes 3:1 depending on acuity
- PCU: 4:1
- Common patient types: cardiac post-CABG or PCI, sepsis, DKA, respiratory failure.
- Critical care experience required.
- RNs are required to titrate drips such as Levophed, amiodarone, heparin, precedex, propofol, cardene, nitro, neosynephrine, dopamine, etc.
Staffing & Support
- No nurse aides in ICU; 1-2 aides per shift in PCU.
- Intensivist present during the day; hospitalists available 24/7.
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7 with equipment including vents, BiPAP, CPAP, Airvo.
- Monitor tech on site; bedside monitors and monitor bank at charge desk.
Scheduling & Work Hours
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 12-hour shifts.
- Expect to work approximately 4 shifts per week.
- Weekend coverage usually every other weekend; holiday coverage depends on staffing.
- No call or standby requirement.
Orientation & Dress Code
- New employee orientation during the first week.
- Orientation shifts on each ICU and PCU unit.
- Dress code: navy blue scrubs.
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Current RN license.
- ACLS and BLS certifications required.
- Critical care experience required.
Additional Notes
- Floating between ICU and PCU required, with occasional floating to other departments as needed.
- Charge nurse and house supervisor roles present on each shift.
