Registered Nurse (PCU RN) - Council Bluffs, Iowa
Job Details
- Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights
- Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
- Unit Type: Stepdown/PCU, 22 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Patient Types: Heart failure, Atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, stroke
- Work Environment: Fast-paced with frequent admissions and discharges
Clinical Responsibilities
- Titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
- Read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently
- Troubleshoot CPAP equipment
- Float to ICU if appropriate and experienced
- Collaborate with charge nurse who carries a full patient assignment
- Work alongside nurse aides/patient care techs (ratio 1:10)
Orientation & Scheduling
- Unit-specific orientation: 1 twelve-hour shift
- Scheduling: Cyclic scheduling with shifts from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM and 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: 1 major and 1 minor holiday

Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Current RN license
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Valid driver’s license required at submission
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Must pass a pass/fail exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure results in termination
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
- Candidates must live within a 50-mile radius and cannot be currently or recently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility affiliated with certain large healthcare systems within the past year
- No additional return-to-office (RTO) time beyond initial orientation will be approved
