Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PACU - PreOp)
Location
- Omaha, Nebraska
Position Details
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Day shifts, 10 hours per day (40 hours per week)
- Schedule: Mix of 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts; manager creates schedule 6 weeks at a time
- Call requirements: Call approximately every 5-6 weekends and on holidays
- Floating between PreOp, PACU, and Phase II units
- Orientation: 1 week classroom + 1 week unit-specific orientation
Unit Information
- Unit type: PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) including PreOp, Phase I, and Phase II recovery
- Number of beds: 25
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3
- Common cases: Orthopedics, bariatrics (laparoscopic and robotic), general surgery, urology, hand and foot surgery, spine cases, gynecology, sports medicine, and preparation for cath lab, interventional radiology, TEE, and radiology procedures
- EMR system: EPIC
- Charge nurse present on each shift (charge nurse does not take patient assignments)
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- Experience required in both PreOp/PACU and Phase II recovery nursing
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book exam during orientation
- Driver’s license required at time of submission (used to verify candidate is outside a 50-mile radius restriction)
- Compliance with fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas
Additional Requirements
- Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within a 50-mile radius
- Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days or less from contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
Work Environment
- M-F with call during weekdays, weekends, and holidays
- Department includes PreOp, PACU, and Phase II recovery areas with patient care responsibilities across these phases
This position is ideal for a PACU nurse with solid experience in perioperative nursing and recovery phases, comfortable with variable shift lengths and call responsibilities, and able to comply with specific certification and licensing requirements.
