Registered Nurse – NICU (Pediatrics)

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Pediatric Registered Nurse position in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) setting
  • Alternating day and night shifts, 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
  • Patient population includes neonates, infants, and pediatrics with diagnoses such as prematurity, apnea of prematurity (AOP), retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), bronchopulmonary dysplasia/chronic lung disease (BLD/CLD), cardiac defects, feeding issues, neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), and iatrogenic NAS
  • Patient ratio typically 1:3, up to 1:4 with lower acuity patients
  • Experience with tracheostomy/ventilator care, PICCs/central lines, and TPN/IL required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Maryland
  • Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience working with pediatric patients, including tracheostomy and ventilator care
  • Pediatric nursing experience

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Alternating day (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM) and night (7:30 PM – 7:30 AM) shifts
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holidays required as scheduled
  • Floating within specialty or sister units as needed
  • On-call not required

Patient Care & Equipment

  • Care for patients requiring specialized equipment such as tracheostomies, ventilators, PICCs/central lines, and total parenteral nutrition/infusion lines
  • Scrubs of any color or print allowed

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check: 7-year criminal history within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for pediatric units)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination proof
    • Hepatitis B: Series and positive titer required (declination accepted only if titer is positive)
    • Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination proof
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
  • Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
  • Verification of previous 5 years of employment history
  • Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
  • Chemotherapy certification
  • STABLE certification

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport-style with solid white/beige background)
  • Signed job description and confidentiality agreement prior to start
  • Completion of badge/security ID application within 72 hours of contract signing
  • Completion of dress code review prior to start
  • Latex allergy questionnaire completion required
  • Epic Portfolio Training Test Out form may be required depending on prior Epic experience
