Surgical Technician

Location: Lamar, Colorado
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 9 weeks
Shift: Generally 6:30am - 2:30pm Monday to Friday with rotating on-call for nights and weekends. May require staying late due to late surgery cases.
Hours per Week: 36

Job Summary

The Surgical Technician functions as part of the surgical healthcare team, providing technical support to surgeons, registered nurses, and anesthesia providers in the operating room. Responsibilities include:

• Arranging supplies and instruments and maintaining accurate counts during surgery
• Passing instruments and sterile supplies to the surgeon
• Assisting with dressings and specimen preparation
• Operating sterilizers and validating sterilization of surgical instruments in the Sterile Processing area
• Cleaning, decontaminating, and inspecting surgical instruments before and after cases
• Maintaining aseptic technique and sterility of supplies
• Anticipating supply and equipment needs, restocking, and ordering supplies

Physical and Mental Demands

• Moderate to high stress environment requiring physical and emotional stamina
• Long periods of standing, walking, and heavy lifting
• Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, and unpleasant sights and smells

Required Qualifications

• Valid Certified Surgical Technologist license in Colorado
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
• 5 years of experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist
• Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
• Orthopedic Technologist experience

Reporting

Reports directly to the Surgical Services Department Manager
