Registered Nurse (Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) - Morgantown, West Virginia
Job Details
- Specialty: Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Hours per Day: 12
- Hours per Week: 48
- Unit: 10 EAST (Neuro Stepdown & EMU)
- Beds: 31 total (25 Stepdown, 6 EMU)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Stepdown: 1:3
- EMU Floor: 1:5-6
- Charge Nurse: Available 24/7
- Nurse Aides: Yes, 4 per shift (ratio 1:8-9)
- Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7; RN vent experience not required
- Telemetry: Present; RNs do not read strips
- Dress Code: Royal Blue scrubs
Patient Population & Care
- Higher acuity neuroscience patients
- Common diagnoses: strokes, seizures, craniotomies, epilepsy monitoring
- Experience preferred with EVDs (external ventricular drains)
- Stroke patient care and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) implementation required
- Titration of drips mostly by physician orders; some protocols may allow RN titration with education
- Common drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, Insulin
Required Certifications & Skills
- Required: BLS, NIHSS certification at time of submission
- Preferred: ACLS
- Strong neuro experience required
- EPIC electronic medical record experience required
Scheduling & Work Requirements
- Night shifts, typically 3 consecutive 12-hour shifts allowed but not guaranteed
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule
- Holiday shifts required as part of rotation
- Possible floating to other units (7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W)
Orientation
- 2 shifts on the unit
- 4x12 hour night shifts including weekends and holidays as scheduled
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Fully COVID vaccinated (2 Moderna/Pfizer or 1 J&J) or approved medical/religious exemption required
- Driver’s license address must be outside 50 miles from the facility
- Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
- Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years after 1 full year on assignment
- Only 2 candidates submitted per opening; travel teams must be submitted together
- Any license issues must be disclosed at time of submission
