Description

Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry Unit

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Description

  • Work with mixed acuity patients on Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical (MS) patients.
  • Schedule: 12-hour rotating shifts (days, nights, or combination) based on department needs; shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but not guaranteed.
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients.
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
  • Tracheostomy management skills.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA provider/instructor or RQI accepted).
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
  • Unit-specific competency exams required.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start (with remediation process if failed).

Background & Credentialing Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific Ohio codes; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year.
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required.
  • State license verification within 30 days of start.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. Annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Tdap vaccination (adult dose) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients.
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, and rubella; boosters required if low titers.
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted).
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medically exempted.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); decliners must wear a mask.
  • Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026; onsite fit testing available if needed.
  • COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Additional Information

  • Parking permits available for agency staff (costs and options subject to change).
  • Candidates must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policies.
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually.
  • NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment; certification must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years if applicable.

Shift Details

  • Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each).
  • Total hours per week: 36.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic mixed-acuity environment with a focus on telemetry and medical-surgical nursing, supporting a variety of patient care needs.
