Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU

Location

  • Macon, Georgia

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 12 weeks

Unit Details

  • Primary role in Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) not accepted
  • Must be proficient and able to function independently in critical care of neonates (>22 weeks gestational age), including:
    • Intubation
    • Obtaining arterial blood samples
    • Assisting in high-risk, low-volume bedside procedures
  • Must also possess adult critical care skills, including:
    • Intubation
    • Airway management
    • Arterial line insertion
  • Floating within hospital and to a nearby hospital as needed
  • Weekend schedule: Every other weekend
  • No on-call required

Shift Details

  • Day shift
  • 3 shifts per week
  • 12 hours per shift (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
  • Total 36 hours per week

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Georgia
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year

Compliance & Screening

  • Full compliance with all credentialing and onboarding requirements required to start on time
  • Clinical screening will be conducted to determine clinical fit before final approval
  • Maximum return-to-office (RTO) time: 7 days
  • Must work major holidays if they fall during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)

Orientation

  • Non-billable orientation hours proportional to contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
  • Orientation schedule is bi-weekly

Health & Background Requirements

  • Background check required within 30 days of start; must be complete prior to start
  • Education verification required; diplomas required for RRTs
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months required; if past positive, additional documentation required
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; results must be available before start
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap highly recommended but not required

Additional Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Color blindness testing required; alternative assessment available if needed
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for critical care specialties; up to 3 attempts allowed

Documentation & Policies

  • Must review and sign Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start
  • References: 2 clinical references required
  • Skills checklist within 12 months required
  • Verification of most recent work history required; can be pending at start with proof of processing
