Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR) (Days)

Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work in a Level I Trauma Center with 16 OR suites (routinely running 12-14).
• Patient types include Cardiac/PV, Neuro, Ortho (primarily trauma), Robotics, Gynecology, Urology, General, Pediatrics, and Transplants; small volume of ENT and Plastic procedures.
• Expected patient ratio: 1:1
• Average caseload: 35-50 cases per day with turnovers expected in less than 20 minutes.
• Use of specialized equipment including 3 DaVinci robots, Stealth technology for Neuro navigation, and Synthes or Stryker for ortho trauma.
• Scrub or circulate preferred; must be able to float across multiple campuses.
• Weekend on-call coverage from end of shift Friday until 6:30 AM Monday.
• Required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.
• Scrubs provided.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Iowa
• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience, including experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment within the previous 15 months
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience working with Pediatric patients
• Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients
• Valid Driver’s License
• Circulating and scrub experience in the Operating Room
• Experience with General surgery cases
• Experience with DaVinci Robotics cases
• Experience with Orthopedic trauma cases
• Experience with Epic electronic medical record system

Work Schedule & Other Details

• Shift: Days
• Orientation dates available; earlier start dates prioritized.
• Normal workweek: 36-40 hours; overtime billable after 40 hours.
• Holiday and overtime pay multipliers apply.
• Call back and on-call pay available.

Additional Notes

• Candidates must comply with employee separation policy restricting travel assignments within the same market if previously employed in certain capacities.
• Local radius rule applies for candidate location (within 50 miles).
