Registered Nurse (RN) - Surgical Unit
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
Job Summary
Provide professional nursing care to a group of patients during assigned shifts, utilizing nursing processes, current trends, technology, and resources. Deliver post-operative care for complex surgical patients, including management of tracheostomies, wound vacs, complex wounds, and new ostomies. Collaborate with surgical and residency services to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all unit-specific nursing duties within scope of practice.
- Complete initial patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
- Implement and modify nursing interventions based on ongoing patient evaluation.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
- Ensure patient and staff safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team and provide constructive feedback to peers.
- Identify personal learning needs and pursue professional development.
- Provide specialized post-operative care and education to patients and families.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
Additional Information
- This position involves care for complex surgical patients including tracheostomy and wound management.
- Collaboration with surgical and oral maxillofacial surgery residency teams is part of the role.
