Description
Med Surg RN
Location
Galesburg, Illinois
Assignment Length
13 weeks
Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts
- 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- May require holidays depending on schedule
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Med Surg experience within the last year
- 2 years of Med Surg experience
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Unit Details
- 37-bed Med Surg unit
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5-6 on nights
- Telemetry patients are accepted and monitored centrally
- No vents on the unit
- BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow patients are seen
- Charge nurse support is usually available
- CNA support is available
- No call requirement
Floating
- May float to another floor if competent to do so
- Full patient assignment is expected when floating
Orientation
- 2 days in the department
- 1 day of hospital/EMR orientation
Common Patient Population
- COPD
- Sepsis
- CVA
- COVID
- Pneumonia
- Surgical patients, including hips, knees, cholecystectomy, hernia repair, and bowel resections
