Operating Room Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Kingsport, Tennessee


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse

  • Location: Kingsport, Tennessee
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Schedule: Rotating weekends and holidays
  • On Call: Required
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care in inpatient, outpatient, pre/post procedure, and portable/bedside settings within the operating room environment.
  • Participate actively in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care duties.
  • Flexibility to accommodate hospital census changes, including potential shift cancellations or additional overtime shifts without penalty.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee.
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience in inpatient and outpatient nursing settings.

Orientation & Training

  • General orientation includes 16 hours of non-billable training, starting on Sundays with online compliance-based learning (CBLs).
  • Orientation includes hospital-specific policies and safety manual acknowledgments.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years, completed within 30 days of start.
  • Verification of education and licensure (primary source verification required).
  • Drug screening: Standard 9-panel drug test within 14 days prior to start.
  • Required health documents and immunizations:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (as applicable).
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation.
    • Varicella titer or vaccination documentation.
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season.
  • Respirator fit testing completed onsite (must comply with CDC facial hair guidelines).
  • Photo for badge must meet specific standards (neutral background, no filters, no visible facial piercings/tattoos, etc.).
  • Completion of facility-specific forms including dress code, smoking/tobacco use policy, contaminated sharps and body fluid exposure statement, and respirator medical clearance questionnaire.

Additional Notes

  • Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without financial penalty due to census changes.
  • Additional shifts beyond the work commitment may be flexed as needed.
  • Candidates must complete all required documentation and compliance by specified deadlines to start.
  • References: Minimum 2 references required, 3 preferred.
  • Skills checklist required prior to start.
