Registered Nurse
Overview

Required Qualifications
- 2 years of unit experience
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- Competency in arterial lines
- Driver’s license required at submittal
Schedule and Assignment Details
- Every other weekend required
- Minimum of 2 holidays during the contract
- Floating may be required to MedSurg or ICU to take PCU acuity patients
- Callbacks require arrival within 30 minutes
- Blocked scheduling is only considered for weekends only
- RTO must be submitted upfront; no additional RTO will be approved after submission
Unit Details
- PCU with 40 beds and average daily census of 24
- Typical nurse ratio: 1:4-5 on days and nights
- Charge nurse is present on each shift
- Nursing assistants/patient care tech ratio: 1:12
- RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips
- RNs are required to titrate drips
- Common drips include heparin, nitro, dopamine, Cardizem, amiodarone, and insulin
- High-flow respiratory support is used on the unit
Work Environment
- Patient population includes adults with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure cases
- Unit serves primarily Hispanic and Somalian populations
- Successful candidates are flexible, adaptable, team-oriented, and communicate well
- Focus areas include patient experience scores, responsiveness, hospital environment, and medication communication
Additional Requirements / Policies
- Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
- Candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and Dignity
- Pass/fail open-book exam is required during orientation; a score of 90% is needed to continue
- One day of unit-specific orientation is provided
- Navy blue scrubs are required
