    Description

    Surgical Technologist I

    Location: Bakersfield, California
    Shift: Day
    Schedule: 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week
    Contract length: 13 weeks

    Overview

    Entry-level surgical technologist role supporting preoperative, intraoperative, and post-procedure care in the operating room.

    Required Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology Training Program
    • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card, or ability to complete training and qualify within 60 days of employment
    • Surgical Technician Certification

    Relevant Experience / Skills

    • Strong working knowledge of aseptic technique
    • Ability to maintain the sterile field and support quality patient care during operative procedures
    • Knowledge of surgical technology principles
    • Understanding of legal, ethical, and moral responsibilities in surgical settings
    • Validated competencies in designated surgical sub-specialties
    • Robotics knowledge
    • Vascular knowledge
    • Surgical trauma experience

    Key Responsibilities

    • Prepare the operating room and surgical supplies before procedures
    • Assist with patient transfer, positioning, draping, and surgical site verification
    • Perform sterile scrub, gowning, gloving, and instrument/sharps/sponge counts
    • Support the surgical team during procedures by passing instruments, managing suction/retraction, and handling specimens
    • Maintain sterile technique, complete additional counts as needed, and prepare dressings and immobilization devices
    • Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization and return equipment according to protocol
    • Assist with turnover cleaning, patient comfort, normothermia, documentation, and transport to recovery
