Description
Surgical Technologist
Location: San Rafael, California
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Hours per Week: 24
Shift: Variable start/variable stop; no weekends, no holidays, no call
Overview
Entry-level surgical technologist role supporting operative procedures in an ambulatory surgery setting. Responsibilities include preparing the surgical suite, maintaining sterile technique, assisting during procedures, handling specimens, supporting patient preparation and transfers, and helping with room turnover and cleanup.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Surgical Technologist experience (5 years of experience)
- Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
- Experience in an outpatient setting
- Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technician (CST)
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surgical supplies, equipment, and sterile set-ups
- Maintain aseptic technique and infection control standards
- Assist surgeons by anticipating needs and passing instruments
- Prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
- Support patient preparation, transfers, counting procedures, positioning, and transporting
- Participate in safety, quality, and time-out processes
- Assist with inventory, room turnover, and cleanup
Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication and teamwork
- Attention to safety, infection control, and sterile technique
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing demands
- Basic computer skills, including internet, spreadsheet, and word processing software
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic math calculations
