Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend

Unit Overview

• Medical ICU
• 20 beds
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
• Travelers float first
• If floated to lower-acuity units, assignments may include 3 patients on stepdown or 4 patients in general medicine

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS
• ACLS
• Ability to interpret EKG strips
• Experience using arterial lines and central lines
• Proficiency in caring for ventilated patients
• Advanced knowledge of titrating vasopressors
• Ability to titrate drips
• Negative drug screen required

Clinical Setting

• Current primary population includes COVID patients
• Common diagnoses include sepsis, ARDS, pneumonia, AKI, alcohol withdrawal, and overdose

Additional Details

• 12 hours of non-billable orientation
• Scrubs are not provided
• No specific scrub color required
• Sweatshirts are not allowed
• No call or standby requirement
• Telemetry is monitored by a tele tech, and nurses are responsible for reading and interpreting strips
• Intensivists are in house approximately 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with telemedicine intensivist support and an attending on call after that
• PCT support is available at a ratio of 1:10
• Charge RNs are free as staffing allows
• Drug-free campus policy applies
