Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location

• Kankakee, Illinois

Schedule

• Nights
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• 13-week contract
• Shift time: 5:00 PM to 5:30 AM
• Self-scheduling with rotating every other weekend
• Holiday coverage every 3rd holiday

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse license
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification
• Driver’s license required for submission

Experience / Skills

• Labor management
• OR circulation
• PACU recovery

Unit Details

• Labor and delivery / postpartum / mother-baby unit
• 7 labor and delivery beds
• 1 primary OR and 1 backup OR adjacent to the unit for C-sections
• 2 triage rooms and 2 NST beds
• 15 postpartum beds
• Approximately 770 births in 2024
• Level 2 designated facility

Clinical Expectations

• Manage labor and outpatient testing patients
• Titrate drips
• Common drips include oxytocin, insulin, and magnesium
• Read fetal monitoring strips independently
• Use of oxygen via nasal cannula and Neopuff managed by nursing

Additional Details

• Charge nurse assigned each shift and carries a patient assignment
• Scrub tech assigned each shift
• No call requirement
• Possible standby for scheduled shifts if volume is low
• May float to postpartum if labor volume is low
• Hospital-supplied scrubs
• 1–2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
