ICU Registered Nurse

Location

• Kearney, Nebraska

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Schedule

• 12-hour day shifts
• Every other weekend
• Minimum of 2 holidays during the contract
• Self-scheduling is available for core staff; travelers are added in
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• NIHSS certification
• Driver’s license required at submittal
• Must be within 50 miles of the assignment location

Unit Details

• ICU with 33 beds
• Average daily census: 16
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
• Common patient types include trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance use, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
• RNs are required to titrate drips
• Common drips include cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
• RNs may need to troubleshoot respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilator
• RNs are required to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips

Floating

• May float to PCU and occasionally MedSurg
• Float ratios are typically 1:4 or 1:5

Orientation and Onboarding

• One shift of unit-specific orientation
• RN orientation includes a pass/fail open-book exam; a score of 90% is required to pass

Additional Notes

• Candidates may not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
• Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
• If called back in while on call, arrival is required within 30 minutes
• Additional requested time off must be submitted upfront and is limited to 7 days or less per 13-week contract
