Registered Nurse

Job Overview

  • Shift: Rotating day/night, 12-hour shifts

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse
  • 2 years of PICU experience
  • BLS certification
  • PALS certification
  • COVID-19 vaccination required

Schedule and Assignment Details

  • Self-scheduling is used, with possible block scheduling if unit needs are met
  • Weekend requirement: 2 weekends in a 4-week schedule
  • Holiday coverage is required if needed
  • No call requirement
  • Floating may include pediatric, L&D, NICU, and acute pediatrics units
  • Travelers should be comfortable caring for adult patients if needed

Unit Notes

  • PICU with 20 total beds
  • Typical patient ratios: 1:1-2 in ICU and 1:3 in stepdown
  • Common patient types include congenital heart, DKA, respiratory, neurosurgery, tracheostomy, ventilator, and G-tube cases
  • Drips may include sedation and vasoactive medications
  • Respiratory support includes vents, CPAP, and BiPAP
  • Telemetry is monitored off unit
  • In-house pediatric coverage is available 24/7

Orientation

  • EPIC training
  • NSO
  • Competencies and equipment review with a clinical preceptor
  • 3 shifts in PICU with a mentor

Dress Code

  • Dark gray (pewter) scrubs
