Operating Room Technician

Location

Binghamton, New York

Schedule

  • Day shift
  • 3 x 12-hour shifts per week
  • 36 hours per week
  • Days may vary based on unit needs
  • Rotating call duty, with weekend call approximately every 5th–6th weekend

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Surgical Technologist experience within the last year
  • 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience
  • NBSTSA certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association, HSI, or American Red Cross
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Experience

  • Previous operating room experience
  • Previous surgical technologist experience

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain sterile technique and asepsis
  • Assist the surgeon with gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments
  • Anticipate instrument, suture, and equipment needs
  • Maintain an organized operative field
  • Keep accurate counts of sponges, tape, needles, dissectors, and instruments
  • Prepare cases by assembling supplies and equipment according to preference cards
  • Support patient safety and identify operating room hazards
  • Assist with suturing, retracting, and suctioning under surgeon direction
  • Handle and identify specimens per policy
  • Help expedite operating room turnover between cases
