Description
Registered Nurse — Houston, Texas
Contract
- 13 weeks
- Night shift
- 12-hour shifts
- 48 hours per week
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- CCU - Coronary Care (2 years of experience)
- CCU - Coronary Care experience within the last year
- ACLS
- BLS
- NIHSS
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience with Epic
Clinical Setting
- Busy, large Level 1 trauma unit
- 18 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, occasionally 1:1
- Common patient types include heart failure, STEMI, pulmonary emboli, arrhythmias, and MICU overflow
Key Clinical Skills
- Ventilator management and troubleshooting
- Pressor management
- Hemodynamic monitoring, including PAC, CVP, and arterial lines
- Sheath management
- IABP
- Impella
- CRRT
- Ability to intervene in emergencies such as self-extubation or trach dislodgement
- Competent suctioning
- Ability to identify issues requiring escalation
- Ability to titrate drips
- Ability to occasionally paralyze and sedate patients using BIS and TOF
Schedule Details
- Self-scheduling is not available
- Travelers fill open schedule gaps
- Attempts are made to accommodate schedule requests when possible
- Holidays are usually covered, but days before and after holidays may be required
- No call or standby requirement
Unit Support
- Charge nurse is present; free charge is the goal but not always achieved
- Patient care assistant support is minimal
- Respiratory therapy is available 24/7
- RNs interpret their own strips
Floating
- Floats first to similar units
Dress Code
- Teal tops and bottoms
- Solid or coordinating non-terrycloth jackets
Orientation
- Two 12-hour unit-specific orientation shifts
Parking
- Daily parking is available at additional cost
- Monthly parking pass options are available at additional cost
