ICU RN

Location: Bay City, Texas

Contract

• 13 weeks
• Nights
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Rotating 36/48 schedule
• Guaranteed 36 hours each week

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• TNCC
• Must have PALS in hand to submit
• 2-3 years of ICU experience preferred

Schedule Requirements

• Every other weekend
• Every other holiday
• No block scheduling
• Limited time off requests

Clinical Setting

• 6-bed ICU
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 2:1, 3:1 for lower acuity, 1:1 for high acuity
• Charge nurse takes patients
• No nurse aides unless needed for 1:1 assignments
• Nurses are expected to monitor patients directly

Patient Care / Unit Details

• Common patient types include atrial fibrillation with RVR, sepsis, respiratory failure, severe anemia, GI bleeds, lower-acuity trauma, DKA, and fresh total joints
• Must be competent with ventilators or able to be educated
• Uses Puritan Bennett 840 ventilators
• Manages cardiac drips, sedation meds, antiarrhythmics, Sandostatin, and insulin

Support Services

• Hospitalist available 12 hours per day, then on call
• ER physician in house 24/7
• RT available 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., then on call
• Pharmacy available 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., with pharmacist on call if needed
• PICC team available if needed

Floating

• May float to MedSurg or ER

Orientation

• 2 days of unit-specific orientation
• Health education testing modules must be completed the week before start

Additional Notes

• Grey, navy blue, or black scrubs
• Meditech is used on the unit
• No tele/monitor techs
• No IV team
• No block scheduling
