Schedule

• Nights
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend
• Holiday rotation with permanent staff

Unit

• Birthing Center / Mother Baby – L&D
• 13 L&D beds
• 2 OR suites for C-sections
• 2 triage beds
• 14 postpartum beds

Required Qualifications

• Active BLS
• ACLS
• NRP
• Washington RN license
• Pending license needed to submit
• 2 years of experience
• LDRP experience
• Comfortable attending deliveries independently
• Comfortable circulating in C-sections
• Comfortable assisting with catching baby and transitioning baby
• Comfortable titrating drips
• Comfortable functioning in Postpartum with routine mom and baby competencies
• Comfortable transitioning babies and attending low risk deliveries

Preferred Qualifications

• Intermediate or advanced FHM

Clinical Details

• Common patient types include 32 weeks and above, high risk, preeclampsia, diabetic, psych/social issues, and positive substance use
• RNs titrate magnesium, Pitocin, and insulin
• Free charge nurse on both shifts
• One surgical tech 24/7
• Patient care assistant with clerical duties on each shift
• 24/7 in-house OBGYN/hospitalist
• 24/7 in-house NNP in the nursery
• OB anesthesia provider 24/7
• RT typically assigned to family birth
• Tele/monitor techs are used for PACU after C-section
• EFM system: Centricity-perinatal

Floating

• May float within Mother Baby and Postpartum, which are treated as one unit
• No floating to NICU
• No floating outside the department

Additional Notes

• Standby response time is 45 minutes
• Scrubs and a locker are provided
• Unit orientation includes an 8-hour compliance day, an 8-hour EPIC class, and 2 to 3 twelve-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation
• No first-time travelers
• Surgical hand scrub policy prohibits jewelry on hands and forearms, artificial nails or nail enhancements, and open lesions or breaks in skin integrity on cuticles, hands, or forearms
