Med Surg Float RN

Overview

• 13-week contract
• Location: Quincy, Illinois
• Shift: Days, 3 x 12-hour shifts starting at 7
• Hours: 36 per week
• Accepts local clinicians

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Med Surg / Telemetry (1 year of experience)
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Total joint replacement experience
• Experience with PCA pumps
• Knowledge of reversal drugs (Narcan)
• Sepsis management experience
• TPN and Lipids experience
• Narcotic usage experience
• Heparin titration experience
• Experience with Epic

Unit Details

• Med Surg/ TELE inpatient surgical unit on the 3rd floor
• 48 beds across two buildings
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4-6 on nights; 1:5-6 with LPNs available
• Primary care nursing model is frequently used
• Tele monitor tech monitors the unit; RNs interpret strips
• Charge nurse may take a smaller assignment
• Nurse aides are available, though they may be pulled to sitters
• RT manages CPAP, Airvo possibly, and occasional BiPAP

Floating

• Float to like units only
• If floated to higher acuity, work as a help-all and do not take a patient load

Schedule

• Every other weekend
• Holiday rotation with core staff
• No call or standby
• Schedules are posted 6 weeks in advance

Orientation

• 1 twelve-hour shift on the unit and shift of hire
• First day is 12-14 hours for competencies, computer-based modules, and general orientation

Additional Notes

• Black scrubs
• Fast-paced unit with heavy patients
• May see 8-12 surgery admits per day and discharges at the same time
• 4 hours of billable computer modules are required before start
