L&D RN

Overview

• Travel contract for an experienced L&D RN in the Birthing Center / Mother Baby unit.
• Contract length: 13 weeks.
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week.
• Location: Silverdale, Washington.

Required Qualifications

• Active BLS.
• Active ACLS.
• Active NRP.
• WA license; pending license is needed to submit.
• 2 full years of experience.
• LDRP experience.
• Must be comfortable attending deliveries independently and circulating in C-sections.
• Must be comfortable assisting with catching baby and transitioning baby.
• No first-time travelers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Intermediate or advanced FHM.

Unit Details

• Birthing Center / Mother Baby – L&D.
• 13 L&D beds.
• 2 OR suites on the unit for C-sections.
• 2 triage beds.
• 14 postpartum beds.
• AWHONN ratios: 1:2 L&D and 1:3–4 couplets.
• Common patient types include 32 weeks and above, high risk, preeclampsia, diabetic, psych/social issues, and positive substance use.
• The unit uses Centricity-perinatal for EFM.

Scheduling and Work Expectations

• Every other weekend required.
• Holidays rotate with permanent staff.
• Standby response time is 45 minutes.
• Mother baby and postpartum function as one unit.
• No floating outside the department.
• Labor travelers must also function in postpartum with routine mom and baby competencies.
• Labor travelers must be able to transition babies and attend low-risk deliveries.
• RNs are required to titrate drips.

Clinical Support

• Free charge nurse on both shifts.
• One surgical tech is on the unit 24/7.
• A patient care assistant with clerical duties is on each shift.
• 24/7 in-house OBGYN/hospitalist.
• 24/7 in-house NNP in the nursery.
• OB anesthesia provider is in house 24/7.
• RT equipment is available; typically one RT is assigned to family birth.
• Tele/monitor techs are present for PACU after C-section.

Additional Notes

• Scrubs are provided.
• A locker is provided.
• Block scheduling is available when requested in the contract.
• Surgical hand scrub policy includes natural fingernails only and no artificial nails or nail enhancements.
