MedSurg/Tele 4N Neuro RN

Overview

• Role: RN (Registered Nurse)
• Specialty / unit: Med Surg Neuro - 4th Floor North
• Location: Omaha, Nebraska
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Days
• Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
• Beds: 25
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6

Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA)
• NIHSS
• RNs must pass a pass/fail exam during orientation; a 90% is required to pass
• Driver’s license required at submittal
• No license or background hits

Preferred

• Travel experience preferred, but strong candidates without it will be considered

Unit Details

• Med Surg Neuro patients include med/surg tele patients, strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery procedures, and other Med Surg overflow
• Common diagnoses include joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
• RN drips include heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine
• PCA pumps are used
• Tele techs interpret strips; RNs should have some tele awareness
• Charge nurse is present on each shift and takes an assignment
• Nurse aids/patient care techs are available at a ratio of 1:10-20
• Floating is to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for a MedSurg bed
• Unit-specific orientation is 2 days
• Scrub color for RNs: Navy Blue

Scheduling

• Travelers will be scheduled
• Limited block scheduling may be approved
• Weekend requirement: at least every other weekend, with additional weekends possible based on unit needs and census
• Holiday requirement: 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Years

Additional Notes

• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Mechanical lifts are in every other room
• The unit emphasizes hourly rounding, responsiveness, good attendance, teamwork, friendliness, compassion, and patient-first care
• The unit serves patients of all cultures, including Spanish, Karen, and Burmeese
