Overview

• Med Surg / Ortho RN in Council Bluffs, Iowa
• 13-week contract
• 12-hour shifts, 36 hours guaranteed
• Nights

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Iowa
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Med Surg experience within the last year
• 1 year of Med Surg experience
• BLS
• Driver's License

Unit Details

• Department: Med Surg / Ortho
• 28 beds plus 22 overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
• Charge nurse on each shift
• Nurse aids/patient care techs on the unit, ratio 1:10
• Floating: first to float within scope

Schedule

• Shift times: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700
• Self-scheduling
• Every third weekend required; Friday and Saturday count as the weekend for nights

Orientation

• First week classroom orientation, then 1 12-hour shift on the unit

Clinical Focus

• Total knees, total hips, shoulder replacements
• COPD, diabetes, wounds, IV infusions, dementia, oncology
• Fractures, sepsis, pneumonia, cholelithiasis, ambulatory dysfunction, appendicitis, acute respiratory distress, CHF, ETOH/drug abuse

Additional Notes

• No titrating drips required
• Common titratable or set-rate drips include heparin, IV antibiotics, antithrombics, and narcotics
• Monitor techs are in ICU; monitors are also at the main nurses station
• Navy blue scrubs
• Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
• RTO must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
• Candidates must be flexible and self-directed
• Pass/fail exam during orientation is required
