Role Summary

• RN on Med Surg Neuro - 4th Floor North
• Unit has 25 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6
• Shift: 12-hour days
• Scheduled hours: 36 per week

Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA)
• NIHSS
• Driver’s license required at submittal
• No license or background hits
• Must pass an open-book exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher
• Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas

Preferred

• Travel experience is preferred, but strong candidates without it will be considered

Clinical Details

• Unit cares for Med Surg Neuro patients, including strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery patients, and other Med Surg overflow
• Common patient types include joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
• RN titration includes heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips
• PCA pumps are used
• Tele techs interpret strips; RNs should have some tele awareness
• Charge nurse is present each shift and takes an assignment
• Nursing assistants/patient care techs are on the unit at a ratio of 1:10-20
• Floating may be required to other medical surgical areas or units with Med Surg patients waiting for a Med Surg bed
• Weekend requirement is at least every other weekend, with additional weekends possible based on unit needs and census
• Holiday requirement is 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year’s
• Orientation is 2 days
• Scrub color: Navy Blue for RNs
