Med/Tele/PCU RN
Location
- Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract
- 13 weeks
- 36 hours per week
- 12-hour shifts
- Days
Unit / Setting
- Med/Tele RN unit
- 32 beds
- More of a tele/cardiac unit
- PCU level care overflow on the unit
Required Qualifications
- BLS
- ACLS
- PCU experience
- Ability to read and interpret strips
- RN must be able to titrate drips

- Epic familiarity
Patient Population / Clinical Focus
- Adults and geriatrics
- Cardiac caths
- EP studies
- Pacers
- ETOH
- COVID Bipap
- Occasional general surgical patients with heart history
- Medical patients with cardiac history
- Pneumonia/COVID
- Acute on chronic conditions
- Influenza
- Sepsis
Responsibilities / Workflow
- RN reads and interprets telemetry strips
- Titrates drips including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine
- Supports BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo as needed
Staffing / Ratios
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
- Occasional 1:5-6 on nights
- PCU overflow ratio: 1:3
- Charge nurse is present on both shifts and may take a light assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs are present, with a goal ratio of 1:10
- Tele/monitor tech support is available
Schedule / Rotation
- Rotating days and nights
- Rotation will not occur more than weekly
- Manager creates the schedule and may consider a blocked schedule based on unit needs
Weekend / Holiday
- Every other weekend
- Every other holiday
Floating
- Float as helping hands to all areas
- May float to PCU for full PCU patient load
- May float to MS for full patient assignment
- May float to some ER holds/boarding
Orientation
- 2 unit-specific 12-hour shifts
- Orientation occurs Friday and Saturday of the first week
- Independent by Sunday of the first week
Dress Code
- Any color scrubs
Additional Notes
- First-time travelers are accepted
- RTO must be provided upfront; no additional RTO will be approved after submission
- Candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
