Observation Unit Registered Nurse

Overview

• Travel/Contract role
• 20-bed Observation Unit
• Adult and geriatric patients
• Patient ratio: 1:5
• Night shift, 3x12 hours: 19:00–07:30
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• First-timers accepted
• Locals accepted
• Floating is not routinely required but may occur based on hospital needs
• Block schedule is not accommodated

Required Qualifications

• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Valid RN license in Maryland
• Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
• BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Dysrhythmia interpretation and management experience
• Blood product administration experience
• Central line management experience
• Peripheral line management experience
• PICC line management experience
• Heparin protocol experience
• Non-titratable cardiac drip experience
• CVA experience
• Seizure disorder experience
• Substance withdrawal experience
• Experience with Cerner

Preferred

• Teaching hospital experience

Unit Details

• Observation unit patients are primarily admitted from the Emergency Department when they do not meet inpatient admission criteria but need additional testing and monitoring to determine disposition

Time Off / Holiday Expectations

• Up to 14 days of RTO is auto-approved
• Every other winter and summer holiday required
• No RTO on hard-to-fill days such as Easter, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day
