RN - Emergency Dept

Role Overview

• Travel RN in the Emergency Department (ED)
• Unit: Emergency Department / (780)
• 27 beds
• Main hospital building
• 36 hours per week
• Contract length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Colorado
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
• ACLS
• BLS
• NIHSS
• PALS or ENPC
• Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)
• TNCC

Preferred Qualifications

• CEN
• Meditech experience
• Experience working in a high-volume ED unit

Unit Details

• Approx. 60 staff
• Core staffing: 4 RNs (or 3 RNs and a medic), 1 EMT, 1 EMT or secretary
• Max staffing: 7 RNs and 1 medic (or 6 RNs and 2 medics), 3 EMTs, 1 secretary
• Patient ratio: 4:1
• Charge nurse typically does not have a patient assignment and can cover critical patients
• Busy ED with a 30% admit rate, <10% low acuity patient volume, 20% ESI 2 patient volume, and 28% EMS rate

Typical Procedures / Clinical Focus

• Level II trauma ED care
• Certified chest pain center care
• Thrombectomy-capable stroke center care
• Psych / at-risk patient care with safety monitoring
• Procedural sedation, primarily with Propofol, Etomidate, and Ketamine

Additional Context

• Uses Meditech (DOS platform)
• ED uses alternatives to opioids (ALTO) pain management therapies
• Stable night shift team with consistent charge nurse leadership
• ED leadership is actively involved in patient care, education, training, and rounding
