Location

• Norfolk, Nebraska

Schedule

• 12-hour evening and night shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Self-scheduling is used
• Travelers sign up after core staff
• Usually schedules are made 8+ weeks in advance
• Weekend requirement: every 3rd Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Holiday requirement: every other observed holiday, including Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's

Unit Details

• ER/ED
• Level 3 trauma, stroke, and STEMI certified
• 11 beds plus 1 trauma bed
• Travelers can be placed in trauma rooms
• No separate fast track area
• Separate triage area; triage is done from the lobby using the ESI rating system
• No separate holding area; patients are intermixed
• No separate psych/seclusion area
• Security is present on campus 24/7
• Average volume is 50-55 patients per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3 in the main ER; 1:2 if ICU acuity
• Common patient types include chest pain, abdominal pain, DKA, sepsis, headaches, mental health, respiratory distress, shortness of breath, trauma, and some pediatric patients
• Common drips include nitro, levo, insulin, and cardizem
• Imaging is just outside the ER doors
• Phlebotomy is in the ER
• RT comes to the ER as needed
• RN performs breathing treatments
• RT equipment includes vents, Bipap, Cpap, High Flow, and NC
• No call or standby requirement
• No floating requirement
• Navy blue scrubs
• Epic training for 1 day
• 1-2 shifts with a preceptor

Required Qualifications

• 1 year of ER experience
• Able to read and interpret tele independently
• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• ENPC
• TNCC
• CPI
• Team player
• Strong communication skills
• Ok with first-time travelers

Preferred

• Rural/community hospital experience
