Registered Nurse (RN) Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Overview
- Temp assignment in Des Moines, Iowa
- Nights shift
- 13-week contract
- Unit has 25 beds
- Patient population includes heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and ortho
- RN ratios are 1:5–6
- Traveler must float across all campuses
- NBO: 16 hrs
Required Qualifications
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Valid RN license in Iowa
- 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Experience in an acute care setting
- Orthopedic care experience
- Orthopedic surgery experience
- Neurosurgery experience
- Experience with Epic
- EKG / strip reading and measuring / telemetry experience
- Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium drip experience
- Driver's license
- AHA or ARC ACLS
- AHA or ARC BLS
- One completed travel assignment in the previous 12 months
- No first-time travelers
Preferred
- Trauma care experience
- Trauma Level I experience
- Specialty equipment experience with telemetry, left equipment, chest tubes, and airvo
- De-escalation certificate; CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA accepted
- NIHSS, which can be obtained during onboarding
Scheduling and Holiday Expectations
- Contractor is required to work 1–2 of the 3 upcoming winter holidays unless the unit is closed
Additional Notes
- Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility based on driver’s license
- Past employees of UPH have a 12-month separation policy for travel assignments in another market, with an exception for those who previously worked travel at UPH
