Description
ER RN
Overview
- Traveling ER RN in College Station, Texas
- 12-hour shifts
- Nights
- 36 hours per week
- Starts ASAP
- 12-week contract
Required Qualifications
- RN license
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA)
- TNCC
- NIHSS
- 2 years of ER experience
- Must pass the ADVANCED Dysrhythmia exam with 83% before signing the contract

Unit Details
- Level III trauma center
- STEMI and Stroke Receiving
- 18 beds/trauma bays, including 4 critical rooms used for trauma or codes
- 6 fast track beds
- 1 separate psych/seclusion room
- ER sees about 70 patients per day
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4 depending on acuity
- Pediatrics-only hospital in the area that admits pediatric patients
- Common patient types include cardiac, STEMIs, strokes, some trauma, abdominal pain, respiratory, and GI cases
Schedule and Assignment Details
- Day and night shifts start at 6:45
- Midshifts start at 9, 11, 1, and 3
- Every other weekend required
- Holidays are worked into the permanent staff rotation
- No call or standby requirement
- Travelers are first to float if needed
- Matrix scheduling used, with traveler needs accommodated when possible
Clinical Environment
- Charge nurse is generally patient-free
- 2 PCTs per shift; they may occasionally be pulled to sit
- RT is in the ER, does ABGs and breathing treatments, and runs vents
- RNs troubleshoot respiratory equipment
- No monitor techs; RNs read and interpret strips
- X-ray and CT are right down the hall, and staff help transport
- Phlebotomy is in the ER
- RNs may be asked to precept as needed
- RNs are not responsible for setting up placement for psych patients
Additional Notes
- Call-outs are strongly discouraged and could lead to termination
- Travelers may be asked to extend
- Navy scrubs required; navy undershirts and navy scrub jackets only
