Description

Labor and Delivery/Birthing Center

Overview

  • Contract role in Carbondale, Illinois.
  • Night shift, 1900-0700.
  • 36 hours per week.
  • Unit includes 7 Labor and Delivery rooms, 2 dedicated Operating Rooms for obstetrical surgical procedures, a 6-bed Obstetric Emergency Department (OBED), and an onsite Level II-E Nursery.
  • The unit cares for approximately 400 patients each month and supports an average of 120 deliveries per month.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Labor and Delivery (2 years of experience)
  • Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NRP
  • Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
  • C-EFM
  • Ability to interpret fetal heart rate patterns and intervene appropriately to promote maternal and fetal well-being
  • Experience circulating for C-sections

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of Labor & Delivery experience.
  • Cesarean section circulator experience.
  • Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) recovery experience.
  • OB Emergency Department (OBED) experience.
  • STABLE certification.

Schedule Requirements

  • Up to 2 weekends per 6 weeks.
  • Holidays as needed.
  • No call requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and post-operative obstetric patients.
  • Care for high-risk and high-acuity maternal patients at 32 weeks gestation and above.
  • Function as a cesarean section circulator and provide post-anesthesia recovery care as appropriate.
  • Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in maternal and fetal status.
  • Interpret fetal heart rate patterns and intervene appropriately.
  • Collaborate with physicians, certified nurse midwives, anesthesia providers, neonatal teams, and interdisciplinary staff.
  • Support emergency obstetrical interventions and rapid response situations.
  • Provide patient and family education.
