PCU RN

Location

  • Lincoln, Nebraska

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Unit

  • PCU
  • 24 beds

Schedule

  • 12-hour day shifts
  • 48 hours per week
  • Self-scheduling
  • One extra shift per 6-week period

Patient Care / Unit Details

  • Ratios: 1:4-5
  • Uses virtual nursing on day and night shifts
  • Common diagnoses include CHF, PNA, Sepsis, Stroke/TIA, COPD, PE, and AKI
  • This is the stroke floor
  • Tele is on the unit; RNs read strips
  • Nurse aids are available, 1:8 when full
  • RT equipment includes high flow, BiPap, and O2 titration
  • Common titratable or set-rate drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nicardipine, Dobutamine

Required Qualifications

  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • NIHSS
  • Must be competent in caring for stroke patients
  • Must be teamwork oriented
  • RNs are required to titrate drips
  • Driver’s license required at submittal
  • Must be outside 50 miles
  • Cannot be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity

Additional Requirements

  • Pass/fail exam during orientation; must score 90% to pass
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
  • Must arrive at the hospital within 1 hour after being called in

Floating

  • First to float

Weekend / Holiday Requirement

  • Every 3rd weekend
  • Holidays are divided by weekend rotation

Orientation

  • 3 shifts on the assigned shift
