PCU RN

Location

  • Lincoln, Nebraska

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Unit Details

  • PCU
  • 24 beds
  • Ratios: 1:4-5
  • Uses virtual nursing on day and night shifts
  • Tele is on the unit; monitor techs monitor from the ICU, and RNs read strips

Required Qualifications

  • RN
  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • NIHSS
  • Must be competent in caring for stroke patients
  • Must be teamwork oriented
  • Driver’s license required at submittal
  • Must be able to arrive at the hospital within 1 hour after called in

Schedule

  • 12-hour night shifts
  • One extra shift per 6-week period
  • Self-scheduling
  • Every 3rd weekend
  • Holidays are divided by weekend rotation

Floating

  • 1st to float

Clinical Details

  • Common diagnoses include CHF, PNA, Sepsis, Stroke/TIA, COPD, PE, and AKI
  • RN titration of drips is required
  • Common drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nicardipine, and Dobutamine
  • Nurse aides are on the unit, with a ratio of 1:8 when full
  • RT equipment includes high flow, BiPap, and O2 titration

Orientation

  • 3 shifts of orientation on the assigned shift
  • RN pass/fail exam during orientation; 90% required to pass

Work Rules

  • Radius rule: 50 miles
  • Candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments

Dress Code

  • Navy tops and bottoms
