Description
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse
Overview
- Travel/Contract role in Baltimore, Maryland
- 6-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
- Patient ratio: 1:2
- First-timers accepted
- Local candidates accepted
- Cerner charting required
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts
- Night shift: 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Weekend coverage: 5 weekends within each 6-week schedule
- Floating required to NICU and Pediatrics based on hospital needs
- No on-call requirement
- Block schedule accommodations are not automatically accepted and must be approved before offer
- Orientation is approximately 40 hours
Required Qualifications
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Valid RN license in Maryland
- PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care (2 years of experience)
- PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care experience within the last year
- BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association or RQI
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support issued by American Heart Association or RQI
- Strong dysrhythmia interpretation and management experience
- Central line and PICC line management experience
- Experience with anti-seizure medications
- Experience with continuous sedation
- Experience with IV vasopressors
- Experience with pediatric dosage calculations
- ICP monitoring experience
- Must be comfortable caring for ventilated pediatric patients and managing acute airways
- BiPAP/CPAP experience
- ABG interpretation experience
- Experience with Cerner
Unit Details
- Serves infant, pediatric, and adolescent patients
- Common diagnoses include respiratory distress/failure, DKA, seizures, pain management, and sepsis
- Manages patients requiring moderate sedation, continuous drips, arterial lines, and central lines
- Special equipment includes ventilators and high-flow nasal cannula
Time Off Restrictions
- Up to 14 days of RTO may be auto-approved
- Every other winter and summer holiday is required
- No RTO on hard-to-fill days such as Easter, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day
