Respiratory Therapist
Overview
- Location: Butte, Montana
- Schedule: Night shift, 12 hours
- Hours per week: 36
- Contract length: 13 weeks
Role Summary
Provides advanced-level respiratory care to diagnose, evaluate, treat, manage, and control cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities. Acts as a resource to CRT staff and may be assigned special clinical projects or other duties based on department needs.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in respiratory therapy or equivalent from an accredited program
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Montana
- Respiratory Therapist (1 year of experience)
- Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Health Care Provider Life Support certification
- Ability to interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Experience with pulmonary function testing (PFTs)

Responsibilities
- Performs, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic testing procedures according to protocol
- Obtains arterial gases
- Oversees and troubleshoots equipment operation for optimal patient care
- Initiates Respiratory Protocol according to department criteria
- Administers medications safely and in a timely manner
- Communicates patient progress to staff, physicians, and other departments
- Maintains awareness of assigned patient condition and makes care recommendations
- Educates patients and families on health promotion, wellness, self-care techniques, and modalities
- Completes documentation and productivity reporting
- Monitors supplies and equipment and reports shortages or broken items
- Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives, departmental meetings, and quality improvement/research activities
- Promotes the profession of Respiratory Care and serves as a resource, consultant, and mentor
- May float to other departments within scope of competency and qualifications
- May be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift
