NICU RN

Overview

• Travel contract for an experienced NICU RN in Los Angeles, California.
• Contract length: 13 weeks.
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours per shift, 36 hours per week.

Unit Details

• NICU Level III
• 26 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2 and 1:1

Required Qualifications

• Active CA RN license
• BLS
• NRP
• 3 years of NICU experience
• Experience with drips including dopamine, dobutamine, versed, and fentanyl
• Experience in a Level III NICU

Preferred

• PALS

Unit Responsibilities / Clinical Setting

• Common patient types include premature, sepsis, surgical gastroschesis, EVAS, and ventilated patients
• Rare use of nasal CPAP and oscillators
• NICU attends high-risk deliveries in L&D
• RN monitors patients on telemetry
• RT is available in the NICU 24 hours

Scheduling

• Self-scheduling by seniority, with manager balancing
• Every other weekend required
• 1 major and 1 minor holiday required
• No call or standby requirement

Floating

• First to float to Nursery and Pediatrics
• Pediatrics is a 12-bed low-acuity sister unit

Orientation

• 3 shifts on the unit with a preceptor
• 6 hours in Nursery and 6 hours in Pediatrics

Dress Code

• Navy scrubs
