Overview

• Travel assignment in Freeport, Illinois
• 13-week contract
• Nights, 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week

Role and unit

• MedSurg RN
• Department: MedSurg | RN
• Unit setup: 3 East (24 beds), 3 North (17 beds), and 2 North (15 beds); staff works interchangeably between the three units

Required qualifications

• Illinois RN license required to submit
• BLS certification
• 2 years of recent experience

Preferred

• Post Operative Recovery experience

Clinical details

• Common diagnoses include post-operative general/orthopedic/podiatry, general medical, DM PN, CHF, COPD, cellulitis, CBI, Bipap, peritoneal dialysis, surgical drains, and wound vacs
• Peritoneal dialysis can be trained
• RNs do not titrate drips
• Patients may be on tele; unit is centrally monitored, and RNs do not read tele
• Charge nurse has patients
• Nurse aides are available and may be cross-trained in phlebotomy
• Respiratory manages BiPAP, High Flow, and Vapotherm

Schedule and staffing

• Scheduled on shifts most in need
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday rotation required
• No call or standby for agency
• Floating may include ICU or Tele for Med-Surg overflow, within scope

Orientation

• 2 twelve-hour shifts of orientation
• First shift includes HR, educator, and housewide orientation, then preceptor after lunch
• Second shift is a full 12-hour shift with the preceptor
• Third shift is on own

Additional notes

• First-time traveler is okay
• Any color of professional scrubs
• Previous employment at any FHN Memorial location must be disclosed for a DNU check
