PCU / Stepdown Registered Nurse

Overview

• Travel/contract RN role in Baltimore, Maryland
• 48-bed cardiac telemetry PCU
• Adult patients
• Night shift: 3x12s, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4; RNs should be prepared for 1:5 based on acuity and unit needs
• Floating is required based on facility needs
• Every other weekend is required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Locals are accepted

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Maryland
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association or RQI
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or RQI
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience working with Post Cardiac Cath patients
• Pre- and post-cardiac catheterization experience
• Experience with cardiac drips
• Heparin protocol experience
• IV insertion skills
• Telemetry experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching hospital experience
• Level I/II trauma experience

Unit Details

• Patients are primarily admitted from the Emergency Department, Cath Lab, and other inpatient units
• Common diagnoses include congestive heart failure, NSTEMI, AFib with RVR, other cardiac arrhythmias, and post-cardiac catheterization patients
• The unit uses PCAs/CNAs and LPNs as part of a team nursing approach
• Fast-paced unit with quick patient turnover
• Timely discharge, hourly rounding, and bedside shift report are expected

• On-call is not required
• Cerner is the charting system
• Navy blue scrubs
