1W MedSurg RN (Registered Nurse)

Overview

• Location: Uniontown, Pennsylvania
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (36 hours per week)
• Units:

  • 1W MedSurg: 28 beds, all private
  • 2E MedSurg: 29 beds, all private. Includes 2N and 2S, which are treated as one unit.

Required Qualifications

• BLS certification (the only required certification)

Application Requirements

• Submissions must include a copy of the candidate's unexpired driver's license
• Any hits on professional license must be disclosed at time of submission
• 50-mile radius rule applies

Patient Care and Unit Details

• Ratio: 1:6-7
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: A Clinical Manager works Monday through Saturday and acts as both charge nurse and nurse manager. The manager does not take patients unless census is above 24, in which case they will. Nights have a resource nurse who takes a full patient assignment.
• Nurse Aides: Each unit has 2 CNAs on days and none on nights. CNAs work 8-hour shifts only (6:00am-2:30pm and 2pm-10:30pm).
• Nurse Reads Strips: No
• Drips: Heparin and possibly MSO4 for comfort measures. No cardiac drips.
• Ventilatory Support: BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow, all managed per RT.
• Telemetry: Patients may be on remote telemetry. There are no monitors on this unit. Telemetry patients are monitored remotely by the monitor tech on the 3rd floor.
• Common Patients:

  • 1W: Mainly post-surgical and orthopedic patients
  • 2E: Mainly MedSurg, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end of life, and chemotherapy (inpatient chemo volume is fairly low; the director and manager administer chemo)
  • COVID patients: Currently housed on one hallway of 2E, classified as "dirty." "Clean" patients are housed on a different hallway. A nurse may be assigned both clean and dirty patients at the same time and must be comfortable with this.

Schedule and Logistics

• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for both days and nights. Nurses must work 2 Fridays per schedule. Most staff pair their Friday with their weekend shifts.
• Holidays: Work into the permanent staff holiday rotation
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling and blocked schedules are allowed as long as unit needs are met.
• Floating: Only to other MedSurg units
• Orientation: One shift with a preceptor
• Scrub Color: Navy blue. Jackets, if worn, must also be navy blue.
