Travel Respiratory Therapist – Richmond, VA
Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
Setting: LTAC / Acute Care
Shift: Days, 3x12s
Start Date: ASAP
The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering high-quality respiratory care and patient transport services in accordance with medical prescriptions and within the scope of licensure. This role involves evaluating patients, initiating treatment plans, and operating a variety of respiratory equipment with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:

Evaluate patients and recommend individualized respiratory treatment plans
-
Explain treatment procedures and equipment to patients and provide discharge education
-
Perform physician-ordered treatments including ventilator management (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and medication delivery
-
Provide chest physiotherapy and various suctioning methods (nasal, oral, tracheal)
-
Monitor patients using oximetry and capnography tools; interpret chest x-rays and basic EKGs

Conduct pulmonary function tests (e.g., NIF, VC) and participate in bronchoscopies, trach care, and chest tube placement as needed

Perform arterial blood gas sampling and analyze ventilation efficiency

Provide tracheostomy care, including emergency and routine insertion/removal
-
Operate and maintain ventilatory equipment; ensure readiness through daily testing

Document treatment and patient response per hospital protocol and EMR guidelines

Participate in interdisciplinary communication and shift-to-shift handoffs

Adhere to lab testing policies for facilities with moderate complexity labs

Perform CPR and participate in emergency airway management
Requirements:
-
Active Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia (or eligibility for temporary/travel licensure)

Minimum of 1 year experience in acute or LTAC settings preferred
-
BLS and ACLS certification required
-
Familiarity with ventilator systems, tracheostomy care, and respiratory diagnostics
