Travel RN – Med Surg / Ortho

Night Shift (7p–7a)

Position Overview

Unit: Med Surg Ortho
Unit Type: Medical Surgical / Orthopedic
Care Setting: Acute Care
Trauma Level: I
Charting System: EpicCare Inpatient (Epic – 2014 Certified EHR)

Schedule & Hours

Shift Length: 12 hours
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 2 weekends per month (may increase based on unit needs)
Holiday Requirement: Rotate with core staff
Call/Standby: None
Floating: Required within skillset to all Med Surg units; higher acuity patients assigned to core staff

Number of Beds: 31
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:
Typical 1:5
Up to 1:6 at times
Adjusted down for higher acuity patients

Common Diagnoses:

Orthopedic patients

Post-operative total joints

General Med Surg overflow

Environment: Fast-paced, high-acuity ortho/medical unit

Required Experience & Skills

Minimum Experience: 2 years Med Surg RN
Level I Trauma experience required
Experience in a large facility with high surgical volume and high-acuity patients
Must be comfortable with lines and chest tubes
Drips:
Heparin
Amiodarone may be initiated; patient transferred to cardiac unit if needed

Requirements

Active RN license (License to Submit: Yes)
Certifications: BLS required (ACLS for Charge RNs only)
Education: BSN not required
