Travel CPEP Registered Nurse (RN) – Nights
Start Date: 03/04/26
Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Nights | 12-hour shifts
Guaranteed Hours: 34.5 hours per week
Care Setting: Acute Psychiatric Unit
Charting System: Allscripts
Department: Adolescent Psych

HumanEdge Health is seeking an experienced Travel CPEP RN to support a high-acuity psychiatric emergency service serving both adult and pediatric populations. This is a fast-paced environment requiring strong de-escalation skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Unit Overview

  • Total Beds: 40 beds (30 Adult / 20 Child & Adolescent – RN will work both areas)

  • Fast Track/Triage: Dedicated triage and fast-track section

  • Security: In-house security available 24/7

  • Average Daily Volume: 15–45 patients/day

  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:6–12 depending on acuity

    • Typical staffing:

      • 2 Triage RNs

      • 4 Adult RNs

      • 1 Pediatric/Adolescent RN

      • 1 Charge RN (travelers typically do not charge)

Patient Population

  • Severe mental illness and behavioral health conditions including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, anxiety, trauma, and complex comorbidities

  • Patients are typically medically stable; unstable patients are transferred out

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Behavioral health assessments and crisis stabilization

  • De-escalation and restraint management when necessary

  • IM injections and PO medication administration (psychotropics including Haldol, Zyprexa, Ativan)

  • Close collaboration with psychiatry and medical providers

  • Monitoring for early signs of crisis and implementing timely interventions

Support Services

  • PCT Support: Phlebotomy, EKGs, 1:1 observation, transport, ADLs, contraband searches, property inventory

  • Respiratory Therapy: Available for respiratory treatments and escalation

  • Imaging: X-ray and CT available (transport by PCTs)

  • Telemetry: Rare portable monitoring; RNs expected to recognize major rhythm changes

Scheduling

  • Weekends: Every other weekend

  • Holidays: May be required

  • Call: None

  • Floating: Travelers float first

Requirements

  • Active RN license (license to submit required)

  • Minimum 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience

  • Prefer candidates with recent medical experience (MS, Tele, PCU, ICU)

  • Prior ED experience not required

  • Strong de-escalation and restraint experience preferred

  • Required Certifications:

    • BLS (AHA)

    • ACLS

    • PALS

    • One of the following required prior to start: Handle With Care, TRUST, CPI, PMCS, or MOAB

    • De-escalation Training (as required)

  • BSN preferred (not required)

  • Ability to remain calm, patient, compassionate, and attentive in high-acuity behavioral settings
