Registered Nurse (RN) Position Overview

Job Description

• Conduct ongoing, systematic assessments of patients' physical, emotional, social, educational, and functional needs through interviews, observation, and physical exams.
• Receive admissions and transfers; complete nursing database within 24 hours.
• Develop and implement nursing care plans including problem identification, nursing diagnosis, interventions, goals, and discharge planning.
• Assess patient safety and fall risk levels.
• Teach and counsel patients and families; make referrals to appropriate resources.
• Participate actively in interdisciplinary team meetings for rehabilitation goal planning and evaluation.
• Accurately transcribe and process medical orders; integrate medical care plans into nursing care.
• Administer medications and IVs according to policies; evaluate effectiveness of PRN medications.
• Manage critical drip medications after competency training; regulate drip rates as ordered.
• Ensure personal and environmental safety following hospital policies.
• Handle emergency and life-threatening situations, including CPR and calling Code Blue.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in medical records.
• Perform head-to-toe assessments each shift; act promptly on changes using SBAR communication.
• Review lab and test results; notify physicians of abnormal or critical findings.
• Provide wound care and basic ventilator management.
• Provide leadership and direction to assigned personnel, including LPNs and aides.
• Prioritize activities and plan effective use of time and staff.
• Communicate nursing care plans through reports, conferences, and shift handoffs.
• Delegate tasks and monitor completion.
• Participate in nursing quality improvement activities.
• Communicate learning needs to Chief Nursing Officer.
• Adhere to hospital and nursing department policies and procedures.
• Maintain and upgrade nursing skills and competencies annually.
• Maintain current nursing licensure and certifications.
• Demonstrate customer service attitude toward patients, visitors, and staff.
• Follow safety, infection control, and isolation guidelines.
• Promote continuous quality improvement in all job aspects.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Skills and Certifications

• BLS Certification (required prior to first shift)
• ACLS Certification (required prior to first shift)
• Minimum two (2) years bedside clinical experience (highly desired)

Additional Notes

• The RN supervises Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and orientees.
• Competency in a variety of nursing skills is evaluated at least annually.
