Job Opportunity: Pharmacist
Job Overview
- Responsible for comprehensive pharmaceutical services within the hospital setting.
- Emphasis on patient and employee safety, adhering to strict safety protocols.
- Ensures compliance with federal and state pharmacy laws, rules, and regulations.
- Maintains drug inventory, including emergency drugs and antidotes.
- Prepares, dispenses, and documents all medications accurately.
- Conducts regular inspections of pharmacy and patient care areas.
- Manages controlled substances with strict accountability.
- Participates in policy review, staff training, and quality assurance programs.
- Provides patient education on medications, including discharge counseling.
- Monitors patient drug therapy for safety and effectiveness.
- Supports antimicrobial stewardship and pharmacokinetic dosing management.
- Promotes continuous quality improvement and supports accreditation efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain adequate drug supply and manage procurement processes.
- Prepare and label sterile and parenteral medications.
- Fill and dispense medication orders, including stat orders.
- Document all dispensed drugs and maintain pharmacy records.
- Conduct monthly inspections of pharmacy and drug storage areas.
- Control and document controlled substances.
- Replace drugs used from emergency carts and floor stock.
- Participate in Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee activities.
- Monitor patient drug therapy for interactions, allergies, and appropriateness.
- Provide clinical consultation to healthcare practitioners.
- Educate patients and families on medication use, especially at discharge.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and medical staff information.
- Use EPIC system for medication reconciliation and billing functions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Current State Pharmacist licensure.
- BLS certification if required by the state.
- Minimum of 2 years recent hospital pharmacy experience.
- EPIC experience required.
- Strong communication skills for gathering medication histories and discharge counseling.
- Clinical knowledge in:
- Antimicrobial Stewardship (culture interpretation, UTI, pneumonia, SSTI recommendations).
- Pharmacokinetic dosing management and monitoring.
- Anticoagulation dosing management and monitoring.
Work Schedule
- Typical hours: 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
- Every Other Weekend (EOW) and Every Other Holiday (EOH) required.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks (approximately 3 months).
